MEMORY VERSE

Lord, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.

HABAKKUK 3:2

INTRODUCTION:

Do we know what will happen in the next years of your life? Do we know what possible disaster may come that will hit you spiritually? No one knows except God. That’s why we need to be ready. We are not always spiritual in our journey that’s why we need revival. The very dangerous time is when we think we’re okay and then problems strike us and we’re not ready. Bible warns us, “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.” Therefore, don’t say, I don’t need revival. We need to keep on reading and hearing God’s word in order for us to be ready for this life, in our journey.

Do we have loved ones, friends or sisters or brothers in the Lord who were once serving in God’s ministry and now they have different priorities and seldom go to church? How sad to see the result of their waywardness? There is a brother in the Lord who became one of the workers of CBT but chose to leave the church and followed what he thought was better. I once asked this worker, “Why you don’t bring your kids to church?” and he just replied, “I want them to give them a lesson or grounded them for their disobedience.” This grounded situation took days, months and years and ask me where are they now? They are okay in terms of money, but their lifestyles are different- worldly lifestyles. I don’t want to jump into conclusions because we are all prone to spiritual coldness as the others. I say this to warn myself and some all of us here.

What if you want your family to go back in the ministry but they are stubborn? What will be your feeling if you keep on praying for them, but it takes days, months and years and they do the same and nothing change? You pray for solutions to make them revive in their spiritual coldness. This kind of feeling was the same feeling the minor prophet had experienced. His name is prophet Habakkuk; he is a minor prophet but gave an important-spiritual message. The prophet sees the sins of God’s people; his burden is seeing the people in strife, violence and contention. Let’s read chapter 1: 3-4.

Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention. Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

In verses 2 says,  “O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save! Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.”

Habakkuk was pleading to God to send or do something to correct His people. He prayed earnestly because revival was desperately needed for God’s people. This burden of the prophet is not easy. Let’s study today the lesson titled, “THE HARD THING IN REVIVAL.”

LESSON OUTLINE:

1.  WHEN GOD’S SOLUTION IS HARD TO ACCEPT (HABAKKUK 1:6)

God answers his cry and in verse 6, God has a solution for the barrenness of the people’s spirituality. In verse 6 says,

For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwellingplaces that are not their's.”

In the next verses from verse 7 – 11, God mentioned how wicked the Babylonians were. What’s the solution of God? In order to bring back the Israelites to God is to bring the Babylonians (Chaldeans) to the scene. God will let the Babylonians ransack Jerusalem, overthrow their government, burned the walls and the temple, and take the people as captives (1:6). Upon hearing God’s solution, Habakkuk isn’t in favor of the solution, and we can read that first in verses 12.

Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.”

In verses 13 -17 Habakkuk mentioned why God allowed the ungodly nation to punish his people (Read in Tagalog). Habakkuk had the problem with the solution because God’s solution does not fit into Habakkuk’s limited scope on to revive His people or bring back the people into holiness. What lesson we could get with the conversation between the prophet and God, the Father? Sometimes we pray for God to fix something in our family but we get discouraged and upset to God when the solution is hard to accept. His solution is not what we want Him to fix it. His solution is different from ours. For examples:

·       A mother wanted & prayed for her rebellious son to bring back in the church, but she doesn’t want him to get arrested and go to jail. What if God’s solution is to get him arrested in order for him to be humbled and he’ll bend his knees in prayer?

·        What if your son who was active and faithful in God’s ministry then suddenly, he stopped from doing his spiritual duties and now he has different priorities? Then God’s solution for him is to get a serious ill in order for him to acknowledge God and be revived.

·       Being a Christian, you chose the wrong relationship and fight for that relationship within your family. To bring you back to the right path, God’s solution is your partner would fall –out of love and he broke up with you.

Habakkuk and God had this conversation, “Lord why you use ungodly people to correct your people?” God uses godly, ungodly or everything to bring us back to His will. It’s possible that the prophet saw the hardness and hurt of the solution of God. God reminded Habakkuk to hold on. One reason God used Habakkuk for this kind of situation of the people of God is the meaning of his name; the name Habakkuk means “embrace.” God wants His people to embrace and hold on. They needed to have a positive disposition even there’s negative circumstances. Be positive still even in the midst of negative situations around you. Let’s put our attention not on the dark days but to the SOURCE of all things. Stop looking around and look up. With this, you’ll have a positive outlook on looking above- DIVINE SOURCE.

2.  WHEN WE DON’T ACKNOWLEDGE OUR PLIGHT (HABAKKUK 3:17-18)

17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: 18 Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

When you say plight, it means – a dangerous, difficult or otherwise unfortunate situation. The hard thing in revival is acknowledging your plight or difficult situation.

I was assigned before as one of the devotion teachers in young people and I asked each one this question, “What is your greatest fear?”  One of them answered, “My greatest fear is losing our family’s source of income.” That’s true losing the source of income is one of the hardest things. What if the basic needs are no longer supplied properly? What is God allowing to happen is the stuff that working on is not working anymore? What’s my point?

To explain let’s read verse 17,

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

The fig tree is not blossomed, no fruit in the vines, olive failed, no meat in the fields, flock shall be cut off, and no herd in the stalls. In a moment our work is gone, no food on the table, no rice, no meat and everything. You would say, “I’m doing my best, I’m planting, I’m plowing and weeding but they aren’t working.

All these things happening to you but still don’t acknowledge God. Some of us go to church and always like everything is going well – act like everything is working. You act like everything is always well, wonderful and good but God won’t fix what you won’t face. I remember what teacher Liza said when our struggle was so hard, and we couldn’t sleep anymore. She said to me that we acted like we still okay. If you needed help admit it.  God will not help you through if you won’t be honest and have to admit that WHAT YOU DO IS NOT WORKING.  The first step to true deliverance and revival is ACCEPTANCE what is not working in your life. It’s not always the devil that’s stopped it from working; it’s not always the haters or the people around you and it’s not always your enemies that’s stopping from working; some stuff or things you do are not working because God is allowing the condition of your situation to be a sign of the condition of your soul. God wants you to see that what’s going around you is simply the result of what’s going on within you. The barrenness you see is the barrenness in you.

You’ll probably say, “I’m doing what I can to make things work to produce, to have some sense of success” but friends this lesson reminds us that it does not matter how good of a farmer you are if God doesn’t send rain, nothing will grow. You’re not where you are because you’re such a good farmer. If you got any produce in your life, yes, because God sends some rain on top of your field.

Acknowledge your plight because denial is not deliverance.  Pretending you’re not hurt doesn’t heal. Sometimes our barrenness is fixed by us. If problems arise within your family, at work and friends, we try to fix it and we think that our experiences, connection, education achievements are going to fix it, but these don’t work. The barrenness around you will be fixed if first the barrenness in you will fix by our God. The barrenness in us like seldom go to church, not reading our bibles, no prayer because of tiredness and no soul winning. Acknowledge your plight and bring it to the Lord. Ask God to revive you from your barrenness.

“O Lord, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.” (Habakkuk 3:2)

CONCLUSION:

A father is teaching his son to tie his shoes then one day the son decided to run around the house, and he needed to wear his shoes. He tried to do it without his father. He started to untie the lace with the knot but the problem he can’t do it so he called his dad. His father came, knelt down and started working on the knot but his son was doing the knot too. The father is loosening the knot then the son tightening the knot at the same time. After couples of minutes the father took his hands off and stood up and let his son continue the work. The son looked up to his father and frustrated and said, “Daddy, I thought you would help me get the knot out?” But the father replied, “I will help you, but you have to take your hands off.”

Some of us looking at the barren field and we still trying to fix it ourselves and trying to be smart enough to fix it but we can’t. Let’s go back to verse 17 – imagine no food on the pantry

17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls

Fig tree shall not blossom, no fruit on the vine, the labor of the olive is going to fail, the fields yield no food – no wheat on the fields, the flock will be cut off from the fold and there’s no herd on the stalls and in verse 18 YET – it’s contrasting conjunction; it’s separates and connects at the same time. YET I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD, I WILL HAVE JOY IN THE GOD OF MY SALVATION.

Our determination for dark days begins when we acknowledge our plight, but it continues when I affirm our praise. YET I WILL REJOICE – NOT I FEEL REJOICE.  Some of us only rejoice when we feel rejoice. We wait for the choir to sing; we wait for the background music to be played and waited for someone to encourage us before we rejoice. Even you don’t feel rejoice, you will rejoice because God’s character won’t change. You’re broke but you will rejoice. Don’t wait to blossom the fig tree before you affirm your praise.

19The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

A hind is a female deer, especially one of the red deer family (Google).

He maketh my feet like hinds' feet - So Habakkuk 3:19, "He will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places." The hind is the female deer, remarkable for fleetness or swiftness. The meaning here is, that God had made him alert or active, enabling him to pursue a flying enemy, or to escape from a swift-running foe. (barnernotes commentary)

MEMORY VERSE

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;.

1 TIMOTHY 4:1

INTRODUCTION:

How sad to remember that one of our members before, professed her faith to Jesus Christ and now she is a Muslim. She was closed to me, and I know to some of you here. I used to stay to their place, bonding with her family and got a free lunch almost every Sunday. She and her family took care of me when I was a full-time worker in this church. Before, she posted different Christian thoughts and now is different (show one of her posts- slides). Look at her post now. How sad, right? When I saw her the first time after converting to a new religion, I had no knowledge about her new belief, but I felt something different, and she didn’t talk about it. Also, she avoided to have fellowship and short talks; she declined the invitation.

How come what happened? Is she still saved or not? This is the lesson we’re going to discuss today. Baptist believes that ONCE SAVED IS ALWAYS SAVED because it’s biblical; there are lot of verses support to this doctrine and this is important.

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;.

The expression “depart from the faith” is where we want to center our attention. The word “depart” is the Greek aphistemi, formed by the little preposition apo, which means “away from,” and histemi, meaning “to stand.” The apostasy (for we bring it over into English by transliteration) means “to stand away from.” It means to one time profess something and another time deny that which you once professed. Webster, who always does a good job of defining words, says that the apostasy is the “abandonment of what one has voluntarily professed; total desertion of the principles of faith.” Abandonment of that which was voluntarily professed. Our Lord used that expression when He was giving the parable of the sower. Referring to the seed that fell on the rock, He said:

They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. (Luke 8:13)

Fall away” is the Greek aphistemi — they apostatize. They professed to believe, then they moved away from it. They no longer believe; they have departed from the faith. Apostasy would be impossible among those who are not evangelized tribes who have never heard the gospel. An apostate is one who has not only heard the gospel, but who has professed to believe it, and then departs from it. That’s apostasy. This word occurs also in Hebrews:

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. (Hebrews 3:12)

Here are those who have professed to believe, and then they no longer believe. They have departed from it. To be honest, we need to examine ourselves to make sure we are in the faith. These are the days when God’s people need to examine their relationship with Christ.

(insert short testimony of acceptance of the gospel shared)

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. (Hebrews 6:4-6)

With the lesson about apostasy, what are things we need to consider becoming aware of this great sin.

LESSON OUTLINE:

1.  MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ACCEPTED CHRIST IN YOUR HEART BY FAITH AND NOT BY HEAD KNOWLEDGE.

Let’s recite John 3:16 and Romans 6:23 by heart. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Romans 6: 23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Remember we are not saved by following the Ten Commandments which is impossible to follow. James 2:10 says, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” Of course, we are not saved by our good works which is mentioned in Ephesians 2:8-9. We need to memorize these verses; it’s important. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Also, you are not saved by your religion because Bible says in Acts 4:12, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

With this, we need to answer the two diagnostic questions:

·       Have you come to the place in your life where you know that if you died, you would go to heaven?

·       If God were to ask you why He should let you into His Heaven, what would you say?

Remember your basis should be base from the Bible:

*     1 John 5:13 – These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

*     John 10:28 - And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

*     John 3:36 - He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

*     Ephesians 1:13 - In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

2.   BUILD UP YOURSELVES ON YOUR MOST HOLY FAITH (JUDE 20)

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost

Jude has given us instructions. He warns us that we are flying over dangerous territory. If we want to survive, these are some things we must do, and it is mentioned in verse 20.

The word “faith” is actually the faith, the body of truth that has been given us in the Word of God. When the first church came into existence, it is said that they “continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine” (Acts 2:42), which was the body of truth that has come down to us in the Word of God. We must build up ourselves in that if we are to stand. In other words, we are to study the Word of God. Let’s ask ourselves, “Why don’t we study the Word of God?” If we are going to build ourselves up in our most holy faith, we must have the Word of God. We can’t build a house without a foundation. https://www.blueletterbible.org

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 2:15)

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (2 Timothy 3:16)

(2 Peter 2:19-22)

3.   PRAYING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT (EPHESIANS 1:13/ ROM. 8:26)

Ephesians 1: 13 makes it clear that once we have heard the gospel and trusted the Savior, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit.  If God the Holy Spirit is in us, He helps us.

Likewise, the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26)

This is a little different from saying your prayers at night. Paul, in writing to the Ephesians, told them to take the armor of God (you’ll notice that, with the exception of two, every piece of that armor is for defense). Finally, he says to them, “…the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17) — that is that offensive weapon. We have no other offense than that plus “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…” (Ephesians 6:18). This is the type of prayer that touches the throne of God. It is the type of prayer that gets things from God.

This is one of the reasons why we should prioritize praying and also attending prayer meeting.

CONCLUSION:

Let’s read John 13:18-30. This passage is a clear picture of betrayal and apostasy. Have you imagined that the betrayer eats with Christ, yet his heel is against Christ? Judas actually ate bread with Jesus. He was a friend of Jesus, not an enemy. He didn’t hate Jesus; he cared for Him. He often walked into the house of God with Jesus and had close fellowship with Him. Judas was a follower, a choice disciple, yet Judas lifted up his heel against Jesus. This is a picture of a horse lifting up his hoof to kick. Judas kicked Jesus in a sense. He struck Him with the fatal blow of disloyalty, of contempt, and of betrayal.

And we know that God knows every person’s heart. Even a person’s inner thoughts are known to God, as well as what a person does. No one can hide what He does from God, not even a thought. God knows if a man is betraying His Son. He even knows if a man is thinking about sinning and turning his back on Jesus. The more man thinks about sinning, the more likely he is to turn back. So, his betrayal can be predicted.

Jesus wanted His disciples to be assured of the dignity of their call as servants of God. Judas had betrayed the call, and his betrayal had left a bad image in people’s minds and reflected a poor image of the ministry. It could affect some people, causing them to question the power of Christ, even causing others to actually withdraw and turn away from the ministry. The betrayal could cause some disciples to become discouraged, feeling that God’s call and ministry didn’t have the dignity that Christ claimed.

Jesus wanted His disciples to be assured of God’s indwelling presence. Christ put Himself on par with God. To receive Christ is to receive God. What a promise to the believer!

Judas was a counterfeit disciple. In public he was ideal; moral, decent, upright. No one ever suspected him. It was what Judas did in secret that doomed him, not what he did in public. He was a deserter, a man of the world behind the scenes.

It is possible to follow Jesus outwardly, so that everybody thinks we are a Christian. But if we do not accept Jesus truly in our hearts, we will not inherit eternal life.

Judas’ life is a sobering example. It should drive us to examine ourselves whether we are really in the faith. Yet is should not make us doubt the possibility to faithfully serve Jesus in our own lives. When we have put our trust in Him, nobody can snatch us from his hand. Jesus himself prayed in John 17:12: “I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.” When we have become disciples of Jesus through a saving faith, He will guard us and lead us to eternal life.

MEMORY VERSE

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.

JOHN 12:26

INTRODUCTION:

Do you want to serve the Lord? Say Amen if you do want (allow responses). Many Christians when asked, would you like to serve the Lord, no one will say NO! Yes, that’s true; no one will say NO but they want to serve the Lord in a distance. What does this mean? They want to serve the Lord but don’t want to give up the things they give them pleasure – they don’t want to give up the pleasures in the world. Some want to serve the Lord they don’t want their lifestyle, time, pleasures to be interfered by the Lord or the church. They want to serve the Lord according to their time or schedules. For example: they just want to serve the Lord during morning services only, some don’t go to prayer meeting because that’s the only time she or he has to have quality time with his or her girlfriend or boyfriend, some don’t want to commit in music ministry because that’s the time for household chores, though he has the talent in music, and some want to serve but based from their will and perspective. I remember one time a member told me the reason why once in a while she was not in one of the church services. She said, “We need rest and self-checking,” and that’s why she was not consistent. If we want self-checking and rest, don’t do it on Sundays. I say these things not because I’m perfect but because I know the struggles and feelings but we need to fight for it and do what is God’s will.

Our lesson is titled “FOLLOWING GOD FROM AFAR” and this is about Peter. In the passage we have read is the night of arrest of Christ which is also a night of extremes for Peter. In Matthew 26 verses 33-35, we can see how he boldly mentioned to Christ his allegiance. He won’t deny Christ and will follow him even for the result of his death but in Matthew 26:40-41, we can read how sleepy he was in the Garden of Gethsemane and the Lord Jesus Christ urged him and the others to pray with him even just an hour but they were too sleepy. When Jesus was arrested this was the time where Peter lost his temper and drew a sword for defense; he smote the ear of the high priest’s servant. This was the time all the disciples forsook Jesus; they left and fled.  Drawn back, Peter followed Him afar off (Matthew 26:57-58). When confronted, he denied Jesus three times (Matt. 26:69-75). So you see, Peter ate his words.

LESSON OUTLINE:

1.  NO CHRISTIAN IS STRONG WHEN FOLLOWING GOD FROM AFAR (MATTHEW 26:69-70)

69 Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.  70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

From the experiences of apostle Peter, we can see agree that no Christian is strong when following God from afar. From the verses, we see that Peter denied Jesus in front of the people.  In the previous verses we’ve read, we can sense that Peter wouldn’t come to a point in his life where he will deny the Lord Jesus Christ though his confirmation of his allegiance was firm and bold. So not up close to the Lord will lead to become unprepared to resist sin and error. You will lose when you follow God from afar.

Peter declared he was strong enough to stay with Christ, to never deny Jesus. We have no strength in ourselves. Our strength is Jesus. Our strength is His power in us. We are to cling to Him, to read His Word, to draw near to Him as sheep to a Shepard. He is our strength.

The weakest you will ever be is far from Christ. You cannot afford to have a once a week or once a month or twice yearly relationship with Christ.

When we were saved dear Christian you were called not to Religion but to the Savior’s side. The safest and most powerful place you can be is close to Jesus, close to His Word, close to His Family, His Church, close to Him in prayer and closely heeding His Word.

2.  WE ARE CLOSER TO THE ENEMY THAN TO CHRIST (JOHN 18:17-18)

17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not. 18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.

What comes to mind when someone says, “It seems like there is a distance between us?” In our daily relationships we understand that to mean that something isn’t what is should be and that we should give close attention to it. Sometimes that distance is an indication of a closeness that is fading or sometimes it represents that there is a danger of the relationship crumbling. A distance can leave us vulnerable, open to danger, or drifting away from something that is sure and solid. The gospels show us where Peter “followed at a distance” at one point in his relationship with Jesus. What can we learn from that to help strengthen our relationship with God?

Peter tried blending in with the crowd. If you belong to the Lord, you are no longer your own. You are bought with a price. Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. You are no longer a part of the darkness, but are the Light of God. You do not belong huddled in among the lost pretending to be lost with them. You are God’s people. Shine for Him! Glorify Him. Live because Christ lives in you.

In James 4:4, “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God,” friendship with the world is enmity with God. In 1 John 2:15-17, we are reminded not to love the world.

What will be the situation if we are closer to the enemy? We become comfortable with the world and uncomfortable with the Lord. You show less importance to spiritual matters and give your time more to yourself, friends, school and other things not spiritual. Also, you begin justifying your wrong decisions. To sum it up, we are prone to mire in sin.

Many times believers make the mistake of thinking they can face the world and even move toward it without adverse consequences. They think that since they are not yet too close, they are fine. But in truth, the direction in which we are pointed tells the story of where we will end up.

3.  WE ARE SPECTATORS RATHER THAN PARTICIPANTS (MATTHEW 26:58)

But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

This we have heard: “I am a born again Christian and I am happy that my sins are forgiven and I go to church on Sunday because I like the fellowship!” We ask: “Do you not go to put yourself in the way of spiritual blessing?” The answer: “No, I am saved and I do not need anything!” We ask: “Have you offered to witness, to pray, to encourage, to assist, to participate in your church’s life and outreach?” The answer: “No. My church seems to get along very well without my help!” Brethren, this “non- participation” kind of faith is a strange parody on Bible Christianity. Men and women who say they are believers just cancel themselves out. Is it something we have learned from the sporting events? -the great majority are spectators. They come and sit! If there is any true spiritual life within us, God will give us a gift of some kind and the humble soul will find something to do for God!

A lot easier to join in criticizing and condemning others for what they are doing when you are on the sidelines instead of in the game (when you’re not in the arena, battling the devil, Eph. 6:10-13).

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Let’s check our actions and our words if we are more in criticizing, watch out! We need to go on the field and work.

CONCLUSION:

John 12:26 says, If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”

It's a measure of a person's sincerity. Those who earnestly want to submit to God will put Him at the very top of their priorities. They won't "love" things as much as they "love" God and His will. To the world, that looks like death, just as burying a seed has all the appearance of killing it (John 12:24). In reality, that act is what allows the seed to achieve the purpose for which it was created!

Have you been following Jesus at a distance? Walking far enough behind that you can still see Him but others don't see you right next to Him? Grab a Bible. Crack it. Get into God's Word and get His Word into you. No more lagging behind. Let's walk right beside the Lord, unashamedly, and allow others to see our desire to be near Jesus in hopes they will long to get to know Him too.

This month is commitment month; may this remind us about our decision in committing our lives to the Lord.
